As mentioned previously, the core of this course is the Bible. So much of the Scriptures will be read alongside the other books. Added to this are books that tell the history of the Biblical story, and reference works to increase the background knowledge of Scripture.

The reading suggestions for this part of course must be followed exactly as instructed (hence the “mandatory”), though given the nature of the books involved it is possible to read them episodically throughout the course.

Readings in Biblical studies must begin with the Bible itself. All of the other books in the other topics relate back to the Bible, so it is important to read Scripture as you are reading books about Scripture. Does what you are learning fit with what you are reading? Decide for yourself if the theology you read works with the text itself.
